Week 47

Puzzle of the Week: A Moment of Chess Brilliance

This week, I’m sharing a special puzzle with you. While I sometimes doubt the interest in these puzzles due to limited feedback, a few dedicated followers have shown me how much they appreciate this content. I might not commit to a weekly schedule, but perhaps a monthly rhythm is just right. Share your thoughts in the comments or send me a note—I’d love to hear from you.

The Story Behind the Puzzle

Hussain Besou, originally from Syria, has become a symbol of resilience and excellence. His family moved to Germany as refugees in 2016. Despite immense challenges, Hussain’s talent in chess blossomed, and at just 11 years old, he became Germany’s youngest national chess player. Representing Germany in international tournaments, Hussain continues to impress with his skill, creativity, and determination.

This week’s puzzle is inspired by Hussain’s brilliance. It features a classic Zugzwang position—where White is forced into a losing move. Can you solve how Black (to move) secures victory in this tricky endgame?
